Edison Lake Ferry Tour (continued)
"Gomez said she attended a special acorn 'leeching' class in North Fork. "It was extremely interesting the way they pound the acorns, pour water on them, drop hot rocks in the basket and let them boil for 5 or 10 minutes, then pour it on leeching boards."
Gomez points out various mountains sighted in a distance during a trip. "It was interesting," she said. "We have Mono Creek, Mono Pass, Mono Divide and Mono Rock. Silver Creek was named because in the sunlight it resembled silver. There also is Silver Pass. Solomon named Red and White Mountain because, when the sun is at a certain angle, it is red and white." Sure enough, it was.
Gomez said there is a nice day trip available along the Pacific Coast trail segment that borders one side of the lake. "I've taken my kids on that trip several times", she said. "Be sure to bring some water and lunch."
