I've done all the research to support the existence of fat 14-inch class Goldens spreading through Mono Creek and invading the lake. When I came to Edison in 94, I did not find anything but large Browns and smaller rainbows. I didn't suspect Goldens had a feed in the lake, nor did I see them until 2008. In 2006, I hiked up Mono Creek to Silver Lake and saw hundred of golden fingerlings plus a couple large parents in the lake. In 2009, the tailwaters of Mono were teeming with a different kind of trout than I've seen before. Solid green with a bright pink lateral stretching from cheek to tail, red fins that were traced with a white border, was evidence enough to suggest that these were not a rainbow at any developmental stage. Nor did they resemble rainbows. Their colorings didn't have the reflective silver that rainbows show. Plus their snouts were more alligator shaped like a brown trout, not burly and football-shaped like a rainbow's. They rarely took the spinners, prefering crickets instead. Has anyone else run across these beauties, and how long ago? Edison advisor.

My friend Brokaw says that these luminescent green trout are "hybrids" of rainbows and browns, but I've never seen a hybrid, so I don't know what this dweeb is talkin' about. Can someone tell me if they've ever caught or seen a hybrid?

They appear to be golden/rainbow hybrids. Swanny wouldn't remember that because he has a tendency to fall and hit his head when he is at Edison.

I hit my head because I pass out whenever Brokaw's breath gets too close to my nostrils. If there was such a thing as 'hybridization' in those mountain lakes, then the whole lake would be filled with ambiguous trout, which is not the case. The different species stay segregated, which is a good policy with me too. Brokaw will have to fling his power bait on the other side of the creek the next time he goes fishing with me!

Does this look like the trout that you saw?

According to the posted photo, this is a cutthroat trout.

I caught a similar fish this past weekend. I thought it was a Chinook at first but then it had the red stripe. It was 19 inch. Typical fish at edison
